The city takes its name from G. W. Dodge, a banker from Anoka, Minnesota, who owned the land the town was built on. Dodge's population peaked around 1950 at roughly 250 residents.

A city that rebuilt itself
Between 2022 and 2023 Dodge carried out a full water, sewer and paving project — new underground lines and newly paved streets through town. The first equipment arrived in August 2022; the finished project was celebrated in September 2023 with a Pig in the Park supper for the community and the project's supporters.
For a city of under a hundred people, it was a large undertaking, and it is the reason the streets you drive today are what they are.
